Today we built and hardened a local “BAIBE_CORE” system that gives a chat model persistent memory without stuffing entire projects into prompts.
What’s working now
- A local BAIBE_CORE server stores all long-term data
- A dedicated drop folder is used as the only readable “source inbox” for manual ingestion.
- Manual ingestion is supported via a simple UI and API; ingested content becomes searchable and retrievable for chat grounding.
- Open-WebUI can use BAIBE_CORE through an Ollama-compatible shim model named baibe, enabling “memory injection” into chat.
- Embeddings are enabled locally via Ollama (auto-detecting qwen3-embedding:4b), improving retrieval quality.
- A desktop-style BAIBE_CORE app wrapper was created (Electron), which starts the server if needed and opens the UI in its own window.
- The global work launcher was upgraded to start BAIBE_CORE and other tools safely, avoiding duplicate launches and improving terminal window titles.
File ingestion notes
- Supported ingestion types now include common text formats plus PDFs.
- Text-based PDFs (ebooks with selectable text) ingest normally.
- Scanned/image-only PDFs require OCR; the system supports an optional OCR path when enabled, otherwise it stores a clear “OCR needed” placeholder.
Key outcome
BAIBE_CORE now behaves like a persistent local knowledge layer: you can drop sources into a safe folder, ingest them into a growing KB/DB on a separate drive, and query them via grounded chat in Open-WebUI.
This sets the stage for more advanced Human-AI Engineering workflows, where the AI can remember and build upon prior context without bloated prompts.
